Master Your Life: Focus on Your Circle of Control

So much of our energy can be tied up in things we can’t control. Other people’s choices. The future. The past. Even how we’re perceived.

The trouble is, when we live mostly in those places, we can feel stretched thin, anxious, or weighed down. It’s like trying to carry a load that was never really ours to hold.

The Circle of Control

– What I can control → my actions, choices, words, how I respond.
– What I can influence → people around me, my workplace, my community.
– What I’m concerned about → everything else: world events, the past or future, other people’s decisions.

It’s not that the outer circles don’t matter, they do. But if we put most of our attention there, we get stuck in worry, putting the body and our nervous system into fight or flight. But if we bring our focus back to what’s here, in our hands, life begins to shift.

What happens when we live within our circle of control instead of focusing on those other areas?

We choose how to respond rather than react.
